Garden Growth in a Month
I can’t believe it’s already been a month since the potted vegetable garden was started. It has already doubled in size, so I wanted to share a quick update on the progress. Bleeding Heart
The Bleeding Heart blooms in late spring. The flowers are generally pink and/or white forming an arch of heart shaped flowers each one more mature than the next. The Yard in May

Bishop’s Cap Cactus
The Bishop’s Cap Cactus is a spineless cactus usually comprised of 5 ribs, although it can be anywhere from 3-7 ribs, which form a starlike globular shape. Down the center of each rib grows flocked trichomes, generally brown or white in color. More ribs may grow as it ages, it can grow up to three feet long. Flower Seeds
My yard is fairly chaotic, new plants sprout up daily and it can be difficult to decipher which sprout is desirable or not. I’m sure I have pulled a few “wrong” sprouts over the years, but that’s okay, managing weeds and a garden is a never ending story. This year I wanted to try to add a few new flowers to the yard. Since I’ve never grown these varieties before and I don’t know what they look like when they’re young, I thought it would be fun to start them from seed first. Lilacs
The Lilacs come out throughout the month of May. There is a row of Lilac bushes or trees spanning through the next five yards to the west of us.
